Bloom / Floración

Austin 2024-2026

Bloom / Floración is a joint three year collaborative public art project in which men gather together and hand embroider flowers and the names of children killed in gun violence in the Texas since 2015 on thousands of target signs printed on felt. Guests, including sociologists, educators, historians, authors, musicians, therapists, wellness practitioners, gun violence and social justice activists and more will be invited to each monthly session to lead a healing discussion about men and violence which will be produced into a English & Spanish version podcast of the name Bloom: Beyond the violence / Floración: Más allá de la violencia and a documentary film titled "Bloom". The final artwork will be sewn together and exhibited first in Austin and then publicly throughout the US.

Americans of the Decadence

Americans of the Decadence is a mixed media (paint, marker & hand-embroidery) full scale re-making and contemporary interpretation of the painting The Romans of the Decadence (French: Les Romains de la Décadence, Musée d'Orsay, Paris, 15 feet 6 inches / 475.48 cm x 25 feet 4 inches / 775 cm). The original painting was made by the French artist Thomas Couture, first exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1847, a year before the 1848 Revolution which toppled the July Monarchy. It is to be produced and permanently housed in Austin Texas in a building open and free to the public.

A hand-embroidered interpretation of Episodios de la Conquista: La matanza de Cholula (Episodes of the Conquest: The Massacre of Cholula, oil on canvas, 26 x 42 in, 1877, by Félix Parra) done as a self-portrait.
