Running Hearts
A traveling and multi-city multi-channel video installation, 2027 - indefinite.

Running Hearts is a circular multi-channel video installation designed for both traveling exhibitions and permanent placement in major cities worldwide. The work features portraits of individuals filmed during their everyday routines, set to a collective soundtrack. One by one, participants answer three specific questions centered on aspiration, belonging, and contribution, which are fundamental human emotional conditions shared across the globe. By decoupling the audio from the visuals, the installation leaves the speaker’s identity a mystery to the viewer and subtly demonstrates that these core desires are truly universal.
The three question groups each participant will be asked are:
Aspiration: What is something you want to do or dream of doing or becoming?
Belonging: Where do you feel like you belong and are at home, however you define "home"?
Contribution: What is something you uniquely give to your community or the world that you are proud of?
The title Running Hearts stems from a dual inspiration. Conceptually, it speaks to a universal truth: the literal and metaphorical hearts that unite us all as human beings. It is also an intentional homage to Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s seminal 1976 installation, Running Fence, a work that has profoundly shaped my artistic practice and one for which I hold the deepest admiration.
To accompany the expanding scale of the project, I am developing a website to document the journey of every person involved. Because privacy is paramount, participants can choose exactly how much of their identity they wish to share, ranging from complete anonymity to full disclosure. The site will function as a deeper registry where viewers can return to connect the voices with the real people, exploring where they are from and the deeper context of their life stories.
