SOÑANDO (EN LA BOCA DE LA BESTIA / DREAMING IN THE MOUTH OF THE BEAST)
A public multi-channel video installation constructed of hand embroidered drawings of seven children who died while in custody after being separated from their parents at the US-Mexico border as a result of the 2017 Trump administration US-Mexico border family separation policy.
The artwork will be publicly and simultaneously installed in New York City, Los Angeles, Washington DC, San Ysidro (California), El Paso (Texas), San Salvador (El Salvador), Guatemala City (Guatemala), Managua (Nicaragua), and Tegucigalpa (Honduras) for one calendar year beginning in late 2021. The work will be accompanied by a web installation of the artwork with an online petition to the United Nations. The petition will ask that a named group of US members of Congress who either actively promoted the Trump family separation policy or failed to act against the policy be called to justice by the UN International Court of Justice in the Hague in order to bring criminal human rights charges against those individuals. In addition, every corporation and organization that has contributed to the campaigns of those congressperson's will be noted with a petition to them to cease all funding to that candidate or be the subject of a boycott of their products and services and/or related products and services.
